Dr. Neeme Tõnisson

Neeme Tõnisson, MD, PhD (M) is a senior research fellow of the Estonian Genome Centre of the University of Tartu. He graduated from the University of Tartu in 1995 with M.D and received Ph.D. in 2000 on molecular diagnostics (Tartu, Estonia). He was a postdoc (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation / Hertie Foundation fellow) at the German Cancer Research Institute, Heidelberg, in 2005-2006. In 2012 he has completed his professional training in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. He is currently completing his professional training in Clinical Genetics. From 2008 to 2012 he has been the head of Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory in the Dept. of Genetics, Tartu University Hospital. He has supervised 1 Ph.D. thesis (will be completed in 2015) and 8 Master theses. He has published 27 research papers and chapters, (h=11, WOS) in international peer review journals and books. His recent scientific and professional interests are in the field of human genetics, genetics of mendelian and complex diseases, biomarkers, applications of genetics and genomics in medicine. His main contributions are on the field of molecular diagnostics and genomics.
